Birds

Loons – Each year David travels to Canada to enjoy photography, fish and spend time with close friends. During the beautiful crisp Canadian mornings David ventures out at dawn and sets up his tripod on the front of his small fishing boat and motors to one of many secluded coves on Big Gull Lake looking for loons. Once David spots one of these beautiful creatures he slowly approaches using the boats electric trolling motor, as to not disturb the birds. The birds get used to his presence over the time it takes to painstakingly approach them at a very slow speed. After some initial wariness they allow David to get close and even become more curious about his presence providing wonderful photographic opportunities flapping their wings, swimming under the boat and giving David many different looks. Photographing loons has become one of his favorite past times on these trips watching their behaviors and having them get comfortable with him sharing their lake.
